Woodward LSG Load Share Gateway 8444-1074 / 8444-1075 - Bridge easYgen 2000/3000 & Legacy Analog Load Share Controllers

Product Overview

The Woodward Load Share Gateway (LSG) is a next-generation cross-protocol communication converter engineered to unify modern digital easYgen genset controllers and legacy analog or RS-485 load sharing devices into one synchronized parallel power networkWoodward.
Marked with part numbers 8444-1074 (Reactive Power Q) and 8444-1075 (Active Power P), the LSG solves a critical retrofit pain point: seamless integration of brand-new easYgen-2000 / easYgen-3000 series digital controllers with existing analog load share governors from Woodward and third-party manufacturers. It translates CAN bus load share data from easYgen units into standardized RS-485 digital signals or industry-standard analog load share voltage outputs, enabling balanced active/reactive power distribution across mixed-generation fleets of up to 30 generator sets.
As a transparent bridge module, the LSG is fully recognized and visualized on the native HMI display of all compatible easYgen controllers, allowing operators to monitor gateway status, communication health and load balance data without extra monitoring tools. It eliminates the need for full system replacement during genset plant upgrades, cutting retrofit costs, project downtime and engineering complexity for industrial power stations, marine vessels, oil & gas facilities and commercial standby power sites.

Core Key Features

  1. Dual Protocol Conversion Capability

  • CAN bus to RS-485 load share signal translation for Woodward GCP/MFR, EGCP series legacy digital controllers

  • CAN bus to analog load share line conversion for classic analog governors (2301A, Caterpillar LSM, Cummins PCC series, MFR 15 SYN, SPM-D11 and more)

  • Multiple selectable analog voltage output ranges matching global third-party analog load share standards

  1. Simplified Native Configuration

  2. All parameter setup and mode selection is completed directly via the connected easYgen controller’s local screen, no separate programming software or external PC tools required. Preloaded factory preset modes support mainstream Woodward and competitor legacy equipment for one-click fast commissioning.

  3. Intuitive Status Diagnostics via LED Indicators

  4. Front-panel dedicated LED lights provide real-time visual feedback: CAN communication OK, RS-485 communication OK, system fault alarm. Field technicians can quickly locate bus disconnections, wiring faults or protocol mismatches without advanced testing equipment.

  5. Industrial Rugged Aluminium Enclosure

  6. Compact lightweight metal housing (141 × 98.5 × 21 mm, ~280g) with IP20 protection rating, designed for back-panel mounting inside standard generator switchgear. Screw/plug terminals support up to 2.5 mm² wiring for stable field wiring installation. Fully CE certified and tested against EN industrial EMC disturbance standards for reliable long-term operation.

  7. Two Flexible System Topology Options

  8. Users can deploy two standard wiring architectures to match site layout:

  • Architecture A: Single LSG unit serving the entire group of easYgen controllers, cost-effective for small mixed fleets

  • Architecture B: Independent LSG matched to each individual easYgen unit, delivering higher isolation and fault tolerance for large multi-group power plants

Compatible Controller Hardware & Firmware

The LSG gateway only supports the following Woodward genset control platforms with specified minimum software revisions:
easYgen-2000 Series (all packages)
asYgen-3100 / 3200 P2 Package: Firmware V1.12xx, V1.13xx, or V1.15xx and above
easYgen-3400 / 3500 XT Series: Firmware V1.17xx and higher
Supported legacy third-party & Woodward analog/RS485 load share devices:
Woodward 2301A, SPM-D11, MFR 15 SYN, GCP/MFR, EGCP-1 / EGCP-2; Caterpillar LSM; Cummins PCC3100 / PCC3200 / PCC3201 / PCC3300; POW-R-CON and other analog load share systems with 0–3V, 0–4V, -5V~+5V standard signal ranges.

Typical Application Scenarios

  1. Genset Plant Retrofit Upgrade

  2. Add new easYgen digital generators to an existing installation running old analog load share governors without removing legacy units. Maintain full parallel load sharing and dead bus synchronization across the whole fleet.

  3. Mixed Woodward Controller Integration

  4. Unify easYgen-3000XT digital gensets with GCP/MFR and EGCP series legacy digital controllers via shared RS-485 bus.

  5. Multi-Brand Generator Parallel Systems

  6. Standardize load balance between Woodward easYgen and Caterpillar, Cummins third-party gensets using analog load share lines.

  7. Island & Marine Power Systems

  8. Modular expansion of vessel or remote mining island grids by mixing new digital and vintage analog generator units.

  9. Data Center & Critical Standby Power Expansion

  10. Phased capacity expansion of backup power plants with incremental generator additions while retaining fully functional existing load share infrastructure.

System Operation Principle

Within each control group, multiple easYgen controllers transmit real-time power, speed and load data over the CAN bus to the LSG gateway. The LSG processes these digital load share values and converts them into matching analog voltage signals or RS-485 digital frames, then broadcasts the unified load reference to all legacy analog/RS485 gensets on the secondary load share network.
All generators – whether new digital easYgen units or vintage analog governors – reference the same balanced load signal, maintaining precise isochronous or droop parallel operation, dead bus arbitration and soft loading/unloading during unit online/offline switching. Galvanic isolation between CAN and RS485 power circuits eliminates ground loop interference and improves system stability in electrically noisy industrial environments.
