IntroductionThe Emerson SX Controller SE3007 is a scalable, high-performance controller designed for medium to large DeltaV™ applications that demand greater CPU capacity and memory. As a key component of the DeltaV S-series family, the SE3007 delivers field-proven architecture, rapid installation, and seamless integration with Electronic Marshalling — making it an ideal choice for process automation systems requiring flexibility, reliability, and advanced control capabilities.
Key Benefits
Scalable Performance
The SX Controller complements the SQ Controller by offering additional CPU and memory for applications that need more control capacity. It supports up to 1,500 individual I/O signals, making it well-suited for larger units with higher I/O counts.
Late Project Changes Made Easy
Upgrading from an SD Plus or SQ Controller to the SX Controller is straightforward — simply replace the existing controller with the SE3007, and all existing configuration, documentation, and hardware design remain unchanged. This "forgiving" upgrade path helps manage project scope changes late in the project lifecycle.
Redundant Architecture
The SE3007 supports 1:1 redundancy for increased availability. Redundant SD Plus or SQ Controllers can even be upgraded to SX Controllers online, ensuring robust and uninterrupted operation.
Quick Assembly and Easy Configuration
S-series hardware is designed for speed of project execution. Carriers snap to standard DIN rails, and controllers and S-series I/O snap into position without retaining screws. Configuration is equally simple — connect the SX Controller to the DeltaV network, auto-sense it from DeltaV Explorer, and all components are automatically addressed and communicating.
Field-Proven Architecture
The SX Controller is an evolution of the DeltaV MX Controller, delivering installation and robustness enhancements while using the same processor and OS that have proven themselves in the field. All I/O cards run the latest software enhancements of corresponding M-series I/O cards.
Designed for Electronic Marshalling
With CHARM-based Electronic Marshalling, the SE3007 offers highly distributable I/O capabilities. CHARM I/O can be mounted anywhere, facilitating system design and expansion while reducing overall system footprint compared to traditional marshalled I/O subsystems.
Advanced Controls
The SX Controller supports all advanced control features expected in a world-class Distributed Control System, including Batch Software, Model Predictive Control, and Neural Networks.
Product Description
The primary function of the Emerson SX Controller SE3007 is to execute control modules designed to meet the specific control requirements of the plant. These control modules use process signals from the controller's I/O subsystem and provide communication of process data to the rest of the DeltaV control system for operator interaction and data collection.
Each controller node can be installed as a simplex or redundant node. The controllers connect to I/O carriers mounted to the right of the controller carriers. Up to 8 carriers with 8 cards each can be connected to the local bus I/O, supporting a total of 64 traditional I/O cards. In addition, each controller can communicate with up to 16 Remote I/O units hosting traditional card-based I/O.
The local bus also supports fieldbus technologies including FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Profibus DP, DeviceNet, and AS-i protocols, as well as Serial interface cards and Ethernet I/O interfaces. The SX Controller also supports CHARMs — up to 16 CHARM I/O Cards (CIOCs) can communicate with one controller, each providing up to 96 individually configurable signal types.
Control modules are automatically scheduled by the controller based on assigned scan rates, with scan times configurable from 100 ms to 60 seconds. The number of control modules per controller depends on complexity, scan rate, and available CPU and memory.
