Installation & Operation
Product Positioning and Core Functions
Woodward 8271-320 is a compact modular DC power supply, specially designed for Woodward electronic control equipment. When there is no battery power supply in the field, the module can convert AC input into stable 24 Vdc output, providing reliable power for the control system. Its design pays attention to practicality and safety in an industrial environment, and has the function of transient voltage spike protection, which is suitable for integration in various generator sets, industrial drives, and process control cabinets.
Distinguish between electrical specifications and models.
The series of 8271-320 includes three models, and the main difference lies in the input voltage range and chassis painting color. The AC input range of 8271-320 is 85 to 130 Vac, and the maximum input current is 0.4A. The same series 8271-589 supports 200–240VAC input, and 8271-867 also supports 85–130VAC input, but the chassis is painted beige.
On the output side, the module provides a voltage of 24 Vdc; the maximum load current is 0.8 A, and the ripple at full load is about 1%. The qualified judgment range of output voltage is +21.6 to +26.4 Vdc. If the measured value exceeds this range, the module needs to be replaced.

Installation points
The mechanical installation of 8271-320 has high flexibility: it can be installed in any direction, and the operation does not depend on the orientation of the module. The module is locked and attached to the host unit by four fixing screws.
In terms of electrical connection, the wiring must be strictly in accordance with the manual diagram. An insulating protective cover must always be placed above the AC input terminal to prevent accidental contact with live parts. The DC output side must confirm that the positive lead is connected to terminal 3, which is one of the key checkpoints for wiring correctness. In addition, the AC input line and the DC output line should be routed separately to avoid the risk of interference and incorrect connections.
Operation verification and maintenance
After the module is powered on, the working status can be verified by the following steps. First, on the premise of disconnecting the insulation protection cover, measure the input voltage between terminals 1 and 2 with an AC voltmeter: for 8271-320, the reading must fall within the range of 85–130 VAC, otherwise the module cannot work according to the design specifications. Then, put the positive probe of the DC voltmeter at terminal 3 and the negative probe at terminal 4, and measure the output voltage. The qualified range is as mentioned above.
It is important to note that 8271-320 does not support on-site maintenance. In case of field failure, the module should be returned to Woodward or an authorized dealer for repair or replacement, and users are not advised to disassemble it themselves. When replacing, disconnect the AC power supply and remove the insulation protection cover, remove all wiring (keep the AC line separate from the DC line), unscrew four fixing screws, take out the old module, and restore the wiring in the reverse order after installing the new module, and confirm that the protection cover is reset.
Safety and compliance tips
This module belongs to the product category covered by Woodward's technical publications and is applicable to Woodward's general safety instructions. Read the complete manual and all related publications before operation, and follow the factory and safety instructions. Over-speed, over-temperature, and over-pressure protection devices must be configured independently of the control system of the prime mover, and emergency shutdown preparations should be made before starting. Wear personal protective equipment (goggles, safety helmet, gloves, etc.) appropriate to the task, and consult the corresponding MSDS when working with liquids.
